15-kilowatt photovoltaic system at the Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia
A 15-kilowatt photovoltaic system recently installed in Arlington, Virginia feeds clean energy into the utility grid that supplies electricity to the Pentagon. NREL engineer John Thornton, with assistance from Ben Kroposki and Tom Surek of the National Center for Photovoltaics and Liz Surek of Contracts and Business Services, coordinated the project. Ascension Technology Inc. installed the 60 SunSine AC photovoltaic modules, which were developed with NREL's assistance under the Photovoltaic Manufacturing Technology program. The innovative modules feature built-in microinverters that produce alternating current.
