Photo Description
Photovoltaic Roofing System at the Friends (Quaker) Meeting House - Madison, Wisconsin
The PV roofing on the Friends Meeting House is a Unisolar standing seam metal roofing product. Amorphous PV material is attached to the flat area of each metal roofing "pan". The upper photo shows a tour conducted at the site before the roofing was completed. The roof is a 4/12 pitch roof (18 Deg.) and faces due south. The lower photo shows the power conditioning and metering equipment used at this location. Madison Gas & Electric Co. owns the 3.8 kW system. Special metering equipment tallies parasitic loads from the power conditioning and metering so that an accurate record is kept of how much "green energy" actually is available to the utility grid. It is among the first photovoltaic systems employed by MG&E in this role. The Friends Meeting House has leased its roof for a period of 10 years to MG&E. In return, they receive a reduction on their utility bill and an option to purchase the photovoltaic system after year ten.
